More Quick Tips:

·         Call an administrator as the last resort or it will look as if you cannot control your class.

·         Call parents to tell them good things about their child.

·         Make sure you take time for yourself when you are not at school. Take care of yourself physically and spiritually.

·         Before you begin on the first day, be as prepared as you possibly can. Set up your room. Always put your plans on the board before class begins.

·         Think about every stupid question that could be asked as a result of your lesson plan. Do they contain any words that could set students off?

·         Keep students busy and engaged. Over plan! Prepare two hours for every hour of actual teaching. The day will go faster than you expect.

·         Teach the kids, don't teach the lesson plans.

·         Always live up to the same rules you set up for them. Keep them simple and justifiable.

·         Stay cool under fire.

·         Rewards will take you further than punishments.

·         Get to know your students by coaching or taking part in an extracurricular activity.

·         Don't forget, you're only human.

·         Learn to laugh at yourself. A sense of humor is critical.

·         We can't save everyone and don’t take it personally.

·         Respect is more important than affection.

·         You may have to purchase your own supplementary materials. Doing so simplifies life. Keep all your receipts - some things are deductible on your income tax.

·         Listen - to your students, to other teachers, to the community.
