Reasons for Continuing Your Involvement in CEC as a Professional Teacher

1. Networking– opportunity to attend local, state, and national meetings where you can meet lots of influential people which may lead to many opportunities that may not happen otherwise

2. Publications – use them for inspiration in teaching, resources for classes, opening discussion with other teachers, research to support grants, etc.

3. Professional Development – attending state and national conventions to learn new strategies, discuss current issues, debate legislative issues, and be recharged and energized

4. Legislative Updates – on the website, you can go to the Policy and Advocacy tab to see what the hot topics are as well as what is going on in Congress. There is also a Legislative Action Center that helps you send emails to your legislators about these hot topics.

5. Advocacy – being involved in various groups that keep you abreast of current legislative issues

6. Liability Insurance –$2 million professional liability insurance

7. Discounts – members get a discount on educational materials

8. Teacher Evaluations - Many teacher evaluations require a professional goal and joining a professional organization is one way to fulfill this requirement.

9. Career Growth – there were a lot of Directors of Special Ed, Administrators, and University professors very active in this organization
